Push It's Love
i was listening to this song on the bus this mornings, and God does it rock. This song has fantastic bass, drums, vocals, guitar, etc. It is also super catchy. Definitely check it out, because it is one of the catchiest songs from the 80's era. It will not disappoint.

Why Didn't UFO Get More Radio AirPlay?
i really don't get why UFO wasn't on the radio more. They had everything that was needed to be popular. Catchy riffs, great lyrics, fantastic vocals, and just awesome songs. Songs like "Lonely Heart," "Lights Out," "We Belong To The Night," "Let It Rain," "Let It Roll," "Love To Love," etc should've been huge hits of their time, because they were higher quality pop-rock songs than a lot at the time. Any ideas of why they weren't popular?

I'm A Loser(Strangers in the Night)
Today I was on the bus, and I was listening to ufo, but the one song that really struck me was "I'm A Loser." I originally liked the studio version more, but today I got a whole new perspective on this version. It is stocked with so much energy, and the sound is amazing. Even though the instrumentation is different, it has a great tone, and it's still respecting the original. The guitar solo is just amazing in this version is just mindblowing; with Schenker just shredding every last note he had. Do you like this or the studio better?

Best and Worst Covers of UFO songs
In my opinion, the best cover of a UFO song is Europe's version of "Love To Love." This is one of the few covers of UFO that I find worthy at all. The band stayed very true to the song, and they played everything spot on. I was never a fan of Europe to be honest, but this cover gave me a lot of respect for them.
Runner up for best would be "Lights Out" by Ratt. Ratt was one of the best bands in their heyday, and they really kicked butt with this cover. They even got Michael to play. While Steven isn't exactly like Phil, he stayed true to the song, and did a great job.
Now the worst can be a list, because I've heard a lot of bad UFO covers.
1. Rock Bottom by Tesla- music sounded good, but the vocals are awful in every sense of the word, and they completely ruined everything.
2. Love To Love by Zwan- If this song wasn't a cover, I would like it a lot, because it's honestly not bad, but when I look at it and know that the band was covering my favorite UFO song ever, and the only thing that is like it is the lyrics, then I was disappointed. They turned it into a piano driven melancholy song, and while the music is nice, they completely butchered it as a UFO cover, by completely skipping the intro and guitar solos.
3. Lights Out by Stryper- Hate the band, and hate the cover of this song. I don't feel like they did any justice to it at all. They made it all modernized, and the lyrics sound like crap.
Any other opinions for the best or worst covers of UFO songs? Feel free to share them in a comment.

That Moment.....
so it'd been a little while since the last time I've listened to ufo. I've been exploring a lot of other bands lately, so it had been some time, but the other day, lonely heart came on my shuffle, and it was so amazing to hear it. Such a fantastic song. It is really one of the best songs ever. And then I listened to Love To Love. The guitar solo was just bringing back so many good memories. It is probably still to this day my favorite solo ever. Ufo is the real deal. They always have been. Even if they aren't my number one, they will always be a special part of my musical history, and they will forever be noted for writing some of the best songs ever.

Favorite UFO Cover Song Results
The last poll on the blog was of all of your favorite cover song by UFO. The four options were "Mystery Train," "Come Away Melinda," "Built for Comfort," and "Alone Again Or." My predictions were that first place would be "Mystery Train," second would be "Come Away Melinda," third would be "Built For Comfort," and fourth would be "Alone Again Or." My guess was quite close, because first place was right with three votes, second was half right, because "Come Away Melinda" and "Alone Again Or" both tied, and third was "Bulit For Comfort."

Favorite Misdemeanor Song Poll Results
A whole ago I put up a poll to see what your guys' favorite song from Misdemeanor was. My first instinct was that either "Night Run" or "Mean Streets" would win since they were the hits. No personally picked "One Heart" but I didn't think that would win. The results were actually semi-surprising to me. There was a tie for first place between "The Chase" and "Night Run" with two votes. Second place was "One Heart" with one vote. Last place went to "Mean Streets" with no votes at all. I was so surprised to see that the latter song didn't get any votes at all, because that song is insane, and it's a great rocker. Overall I know "Night Run" would win, but it was a surprise to see "The Chase" tie, even though it's a fantastic song. What do you think of these results?

What I Think About the Soon To Be Released Box Set By UFO
I was just looking around on amazon, and I noticed that there was a new UFO box set coming out. It is the Complete Studio Albums: 1974-1986. While I think it's cool that there is a new box set out, I don't see how this is that much different than the Chrysalis Years box sets. It's the same exact albums, and they're still on audio cd. I think it'd be a much better idea to make a box set of the next group of albums after Misdemeanor, because it'd be something new, and frankly I think fans would go crazier over this. The other cool thing they could done was keep the same albums as this box set has, and make it vinyl. I guess the thing that can possibly make this thing exciting is potential bonus tracks, but amazon had nothing about them on the website. So truly I don't see anything super special about this release, but hey I may be surprised. What do you think about this?

Interesting Fact I Learned On That Metal Show
On the last episode of my favorite tv show That Metal Show, there was a fact I learned that really blew my mind. On the "Stump The Trunk" segment of the show, one of the questions was "what UFO song shares it's name with a a Beatles song?" This really stumped me, because only thing that came to my mind was "Mother Mary" being a main part of the song "Let It Be." The answer ended up being "I'm A Loser." I never knew there was a Beatles song with that name, so I was very surprised. Anyways if you like UFO, then check out That Metal Show, because all of the guys(especially Eddie Trunk) are fans of the band.

Anyone Know How Pete Way Is Doing???
A subject that's been on my mind a lot is Pete Way's cancer. I have tried to look for recent articles to see his condition, but nothing is on the internet. With rock heroes like Dio dying of cancer, I just hope Pete is luckier. Does anyone know how he is doing? Comment on this if you do because I'm super curious.

My Favorite Atomik Tommy M Guitar Solo
Atomik Tommy M came into the band after the departure of one of my favorites Paul Chapman. Although he didn't make the impact in the band that Schenker and Chapman, he was still an amazing guitarist that could really rip out an an intense solo. My favorite guitar solo by Tommy has to be the one in "Night Run." Although this isn't the best song on Misdemeanor, it is so cool, and the solo is mind blowing and his best for sure. He gets such an amazing sound out of his guitar, and even though it's a very quick solo, you feel every note, and it's just extremely memorable. I kind of hear a Randy Rhoads influence on the solo in some ways. I really love how Tommy keeps the solo high on the neck, because it's a better place for his bends, and he gets more feeling down there. This solo is truly fantastic, and it shows Tommy at his best. The song in general is extraordinary too, and it's definitely worth a chance for listening to.

Something I've Changed My Mind On.
When I first wrote an article on my favorite UFO producer, I chose George Martin from No Place To Run. I still love his production on that album a bunch, but I think he is second to Ron Nevison. The reason I say this is that he produced Lights Out, Obsession, and Strangers in the Night. Just Strangers In the Night alone is enough to prove he is the best. He just perfectly executed everything on this album. He made the flow amazing, and it really sounds like you are at the concert right now, the biggest reason for this is that there isn't any gap between the songs at all, so it is so much more realistic. The other two albums he produced are perfect too; especially Lights Out. As you can see I changed my opinion after listening to these albums again, and I think this decision is a little more logical. No Place To Run really impressed me because of the sound on songs like "Lettin Go," "Mystery Train," and "Anyday," but as a producer I think Nevison is better in general. Do you agree with this change in opinion?

Another Band UFO Fans May Like....
In the time that I last wrote about bands that UFO fans may like, I discovered a fantastic band that you guys would love. Their name is Y and T. They started in 1974, as Yesterday and Tomorrow, but in the 80's they changed their name and became a underground classic band like UFO. The only song that really got big by Y and T is the dreadful "Summertime Girls," but don't let this be a judgment of the rest of the band's catalog. They wrote some of the most brutally heavy riffs I have ever heard. And Dave Meniketti is a master of singing and guitar playing. Check out the songs "Open Fire," "Winds Of Change," "Black Tiger," "Forever," "Lipstick and Leather, "Mean Streak," "Barroom Boogie," "Dirty Girl," "Rescue Me," "I'm Coming Home," "My Way Or The Highway," "Don't Want a To Lose," and I promise your mind will be blown. These guys are truly insane.

If You Like UFO... You May Like...
Here is a list of bands that I recommend to any big fans of UFO.
1. Thin Lizzy
2. Nazareth
3. Uriah Heep
4. Rainbow(listen to the second album, it's their best).
5. Saxon
6. Accept
7. Aerosmith
8. ACDC(Bon Scott years)
9. Ratt
10. Whitesnake
11. Blue Cheer
While all these bands aren't exactly like UFO, I think that fans of the greatest hard rock band may appreciate these names. A lot of these bands are very underrated(just like UFO). Thin Lizzy was very much alike, because they had a different sound than most bands of the time, they had great songs and were consistent, and they didn't get really big. Nazareth is also very similar with their insane riffs, and emotional vocals. Whitesnake has their moments where they sound like UFO. Check out their song "Here I Go Again," and I swear some of the lines in the song were influenced by "Love To Love." Aerosmith is a great alternative, because their early material is very raw, just like UFO. Definitely check out all of these bands if you haven't already. If you're going to check out Rainbow, the just listen to the whole Rainbow Rising album, because it has amazing songs from top to bottom including; "Tarot a Woman," "Run With The Wolf," "Starstruck," "Do You Close Your Eyes," "A Light In The Black," and their best song "Stargazer." If you're going to listen to Saxon, then check out the songs "Princess of the Night," "Denim and Leather," "Dallas 1 pm," and their cover of "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross. When it comes to Accept, the standouts are "Balls to the Wall," "Reckless and Wild," "Fast As A Shark," "London Leatherboys," and "Hellfire." Uriah Heep is much more similar to early UFO with Mick Bolton, and their standouts are "The Wizard, " "Lady in Black," and "Easy Livin'." Blue Cheer was a psychedelic band from the 60's, and their debut album Vincebus Eruptum sounds a lot like early UFO. Their cover of "Summertime Blues" by Eddie Cochran is known to be the first metal song ever, and it sounds a little like the cover of "C'mon Everybody" on UFO 1. Ratt was a great 80's band, and they actually had Michael Schenker in the band briefly. They have a very cool sound to their music, largely because of Warren Demartini's innovative guitar style, and Stephen Pearcy's awesome voice. Some standouts by this band are "Body Talk," "Lay it Down," and " Round and Round." There are so many other bands that have been influenced, or sound like UFO, and if you want to recommend any feel free to comment.

My Least Favorite UFO Album.....
Even the best bands of music have their clunker album. Yes this includes UFO... The band was mainly consistent, but there was one dreaded album in their catalog. This album was the 1983 Making Contact. This album is a low point of UFO's music, and a low point in rock and roll alone. The sings are really really cheesy, the band fell into the basic 80's sound, and the performances aren't all that great either. The high point of the album is "When it's Time To Rock," and even that song is ruined by a cheesy chorus. Then there are annoying songs like "Diesel in the Dust." I just think that this album shows a bad case of writer's block, because a lot of the songs are pathetic. When it comes to bands like UFO, I hate to trash because they are so amazing, but I feel it's good to be honest when something truly bad was released. This album was the prime example of that. If you want to hear great albums from the 80's by UFO, go to Mechanix, No Place To Run, The Wild The Willling and the Innocent, or Misdemeanor, because these are quality albums with great songs, and great performances. Then there is the 70's UFO albums like Lights Out, No Heavy Petting, Force It, Strangers in the Night, and Phenomenon. Then there are the Mick Bolton albums, the Vinnie Moore albums, etc. Just avoid this terrible album..... It really doesn't reflect on the amazingness of UFO, because they are the best hard rock band, and this is one of the worst albums I've ever heard.

Favorite Pete Way Bass Riff
If I had to choose a riff by Pete Way on the bass, it would definitely be "Lights Out." The reason why is it is a very chugging riff, and it sounds so much like the sound that would later be adopted by Irpn Maiden. It just has so much energy, and it is insane. It's also very cool to watch Pete play it live! because he really gets into it. Do you have a different favorite? Leave comment.
